Launching the School of Survival at Deichtorhallen in Hamburg

The School of Survival is a future laboratory within the exhibition Survival in the 21st century, organised by our partner and Hamburg pilot leader Deichtorhallen, taking place from 18 May to 5 November 2024 in Hamburg, Germany.

Bauhaus of the Seas Sails was part of the opening programme on 18 May where several partners presented the project’s narrative with a special focus on the Regenerative Menu drop. The interactive workshops also mark the start of the local activities of the Hamburg pilot.

Katinka Versendaal, the design lead of the Hamburg pilot, and our project coordinator Nuno Jardim Nunes, presented Bauhaus of the Seas Sails and a Survival Dish, delving into the intersection of food, sustainability, and community.

Then followed a conversation with Mariana Pestana, our Arts & Culture Coordinator and Markus Reymann, TBA21 director and Katinka Versendaal, exploring the relationship between future foodscapes, speculative gastronomy, and contemporary art.

Bauhaus of the Seas Sails Fellowship Kick-Off and Zoöp Lecture on 30 May

On Thursday, 30 May, 2024, Hamburg’s Hall of Contemporary Art will host two events that promise to inspire and engage attendees with innovative projects and ideas.

Bauhaus of the Seas Sails Fellowship Kick-Off Event

From 11:00 to 12:00, the Bauhaus of the Seas Sails Fellowship will introduce seven fellowships that focus on Regenerative Menu. This fellowship, a collaboration between four local culinary practitioners and three international research practices, aims to transform eating from an extractive process into a regenerative one. The event highlights how food can heal rather than harm our environment and fellow beings, promoting radical inclusivity at the dinner table. You can find more information here.

Zoöp Lecture by Klaas Kuitenbrouwer and Wietske Nutma

From 15:00 to 16:00, Klaas Kuitenbrouwer and Wietske Nutma from Het Nieuwe Instituut (NL) will present the Zoöp model. This organizational framework promotes cooperation between humans and other-than-human life, integrating ecological interests into decision-making processes. Developed through interdisciplinary collaboration, the Zoöp model offers a path toward sustainable coexistence. You can find more information here.

Event Details

Both events will be held in the Kitchen at the Hall of Contemporary Art and will be conducted in English. Participants can access these events with the free Survival Pass, which allows unlimited entry to the exhibition and participation in the School of Survival. Prior registration is not required, but space is limited to 35 participants. For group visits with more than eight people, prior arrangement via besuch@deichtorhallen.de is requested.

Join these events to explore new perspectives on sustainability, inclusivity, and ecological regeneration!
