Visionary Insights: Bauhaus of the Seas Sails at the National University of Singapore

On 7 March 2025, Professors Nuno Jardim Nunes and Valentina Nisi from the Interactive Technologies Institute (ITI), delivered an inspiring talk at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Their presentations highlighted the intersection of interactive technologies, design, and participatory culture, showcasing ongoing European projects including Bauhaus of the Seas Sails.

As the project coordinator, Nuno Nunes presented “Bauhaus of the Seas – a Vision for the New European Bauhaus,” focusing on the project’s interdisciplinary framework, which integrates interspecies, intergenerational, and intercultural design approaches. He discussed how digital technologies like AI, blockchain, and interactive storytelling are used to foster innovative urban interventions across seven European cities. His talk also explored the BIG ERA Chair’s work on leveraging blockchain for social good.

Our partner Valentina Nisi delivered “Storytelling as a Bridge to Heritage and Cultural Identity,” featuring case studies from EU-funded projects like MEMEX and LoGaCulture. These initiatives demonstrate how interactive digital storytelling can address societal challenges and enhance cultural heritage experiences through VR, AR, and mixed reality. She highlighted the role of DLTs and NFTs in preserving natural heritage.

The presentations highlight Bauhaus of the Seas Sails’ significant contributions to European research and innovation. Their talks reinforced our commitment to international collaborations and interdisciplinary research at the intersection of design, technology, and societal impact.

We look forward to sharing more updates as we progress in our journey, working closely with local communities across seven European cities to achieve an environmentally sustainable, socially fair, and aesthetically appealing transition. Through our interdisciplinary, intergenerational, and interspecies approach, we aim to respond to social and environmental challenges, fostering a new relationship between coastal communities and our vital water bodies.
