NEB lighthouses gather in Cultuur & Campus Putselaan in Rotterdam

Bauhaus of the Seas Sails team represented by coordinator Nuno Jardim proudly participated in the 7th New European Bauhaus (NEB) Lighthouse Projects Cluster Meeting,  under the theme “Joint Impact Action: delivery, legacy, and handover to the new NEB generation.” The event hosted by CULTUURCAMPUS  in Rotterdam over 25-26 September 2025 gathered New European Bauhaus lighthouse projects, policy officers, and stakeholders to share progress, discuss legacies, and connect with the upcoming generation of NEB initiatives.

The first day opened with New European Bauhaus policy updates and presentations from lighthouse projects including EHHUR, NEB-STAR, CULTUURCAMPUS, NEBourhoods, and Desire.

As one of the lighthouses, Bauhaus Seas contributed to discussions on project delivery and collective impact, highlighting how our work demonstrates the power of local communities in shaping sustainable, inclusive, and beautiful spaces.

A central roundtable explored the Joint Impact Action of these projects, while discussions also introduced the NEB Junction project and the four new generation Horizon-funded projects focused on governance and biomaterials: SPICE, UTOPIZE, BIOARC, and CIRCBUILT.

Beyond the sessions, the participants had the opportunity to visit the Putselaan sites that brought NEB values to life — including the recycling station Het Grondstoffenstation where food waste from the nearby weekly fresh food market is repurposed for food purposes as well as turned into biogas.

A special highlight was a sustainable dinner curated by chef Kate Price using produce from these waste streams. On the second day, we had a guided tour of the renovated 100-year old St. Louisschool now hosting the Cultuur&Campus Putselaan and its educational and cultural activities. The tour showcased the transformation of the building into open public spaces and the gradual adaptions of communal garden and “living room” accessible for all.
