Bauhaus of the Seas Sails: Reimagining Institutions for Climate Action
On February 5-6, 2025, our partner TBA21 was invited to be part of Pública 25: Encuentros Profesionales de Cultura in Spain and present the Bauhaus of the Seas Sails. The successful event saw a participation of 693 participants from 18 different countries. Our partners Eva Gil Lopesino and Rosa Ferré from TBA21 joined the session “Reimaginar las instituciones para la acción climática” (Reimagining institutions for climate action), where they shared insights on our innovative project and the groundbreaking Zoöp methodology implemented at Ocean Space in Venice.
The session highlighted the urgent need for new institutional models that can effectively address climate change. As part of the New European Bauhaus initiative, BoSS exemplifies a multi-agent, multi-scale, and interdisciplinary approach to tackling environmental issues. Our project brings together cultural institutions, government agencies, universities, and scientists in sustainable design processes, fostering collaboration across diverse sectors.
One of the most exciting developments shared during the session was the Zoöp model. Born in our partner cultural institution Nieuwe Instituut, this innovative governance structure rethinks institutional decision-making by giving representation to non-human entities. By incorporating the interests of ecosystems and other species into our planning and operations, we’re pioneering a more holistic approach to environmental stewardship.
TBA21 presented these visionary projects as part of a broader effort to reimagine institutional structures. Our goal is to build regenerative, collaborative, diverse, inclusive, and more just alternatives that can effectively address the complex challenges of climate change.

As we move forward with these new approaches, we’re encouraged by the potential for meaningful progress. The positive response at Pública 25 supports our view that rethinking institutions and including a wider range of perspectives – including more-than-human voices.
