Venice pilot workshop and exhibition at IUAV University

The Venice pilot of the Bauhaus of the Seas Sails project held an exhibition “Venice / Bauhaus of the Seas Sails” from 20 to 27 September 2024 at the IUAV University of Venice.

The exhibition comes as a showcase of the works produced during the “Future Tidal Architectures” workshop and the “Blue Seniors” activity, coordinated respectively by IUAV University of Venice and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, with the collaboration of the Municipality of Venice and the Port System Authority of the Northern Adriatic Sea.

Future Tidal Architectures workshop

The workshop “Future Tidal Architectures”, organised by IUAV University of Venice, in collaboration with TU Delft, took place from 16 to 20 September,  and involved several students of the degree in Architecture and in Urban Planning and Territorial Planning and interventions by professors, technicians and stakeholders.

The aim of the workshop was to reflect on the relationship between the lagoon ecosystem and the city, between tides and the architecture of the future.

The area under study was the San Basilio district, where the replacement of the ancient settlements with the large industrial buildings of the 18th century has created a significant fracture in the urban fabric and made the relationship with the lagoon controversial. The enhancement of the district and its relationship with the lagoon have been entrusted to the creativity of the students whose works have been collected for being shared with the community.

Blue Seniors digital platforms

The exhibition also hosted a selection of the most significant digital projects developed by Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, as part of the degrees in Computer Science and Digital and Public Humanities. In the Human-Machine Interaction course, more than 100 students participated in a process of analysis and understanding of the needs of Blue Seniors, elderly people living in Venice. This analysis was the premise for the following development of 27 concepts of digital platforms that can provide support in everyday life, alleviate possible social exclusion and allow Blue Seniors to access initiatives that include beauty as part of the experience.

The path is completed by “MetaBauhaus Venice”, a website designed in a collaborative fashion by the students of the Web and User Experience Design course, dedicated to the Santa Marta area in Venice.
