Launching the pilot in Malmö, Sweden on World Oceans Day

The Bauhaus of the Seas Sails Swedish pilot in Malmö organised a day long celebration of the World Oceans Day on Saturday, 8 June 2024 at Södra Varvsbassängen and Färjeterminalen.

The event, which took place in two locations, focused on ocean conservation and sustainability, with activities ranging from constructing a reef to waste cleanup by divers.

Throughout the day, Malmö residents of all ages had the opportunity to experience and interact with marine life.

The event was also a great moment to inaugurate Södra Varvsbassängen, which is being transformed into an underwater park with, among other things, eelgrass and bladderwrack. Younger participants had the opportunity to build a stone reef that will be home to their future neighbours, such as the seaweed snail, perch, shore crab, herring and eel.

The afternoon continued in Nyhamnen to explore the future marine park at the Ferry Terminal. The event was a great success and it was attended by various groups including local organisations, actors, and politicians.

The event has been organised by Marine Education Center, Malmö University (The School of Arts and Communication and The Forum for Social Innovation), Malmö Municipality and ArkDes- Swedish Centre for Architecture and Design.
