Join the World Rivers Day in Marvila

Sunday, September 28, 15-17h

Marvila Library Container, Parque Ribeirinho Oriente
Rua Fábrica de Material de Guerra, Braço de Prata, Lisbon

On the upcoming World Rivers Day, the Marvila Library container by the Tagus river will host presentations by two of the Bauhaus of the Sea Sails creative collectives working in Lisbon. The Guarda Rios collective welcomes citizens of all ages to create a river with sand and water from the Tagus, to discover more about the new species of fish and plants that inhabit Iberian rivers. The Mesa Rio [River Table] is an interactive and educational installation that encourages visitors to understand the different mechanisms involved in the formation of a river, discover a little of the history of the planet’s evolution, and reflect on the impact large dams have on the biological and sedimentary flow of a river. In this session, we will also talk about the Bestiário dos Rios [Bestiary of Rivers] comic book, in which Guarda Rios together with Filipe Felizardo, book’s author, delve into the universe of new species that inhabit Iberian rivers, exploring their outstanding stories, how they got here, and the consequences of this new ecology created by human hands.

Luca Carlisle of the Fahrenheit 180 collective and Rafael Calado of the Lisbon Biolab will present “À flor do Azulejo, a cor do Tejo”, a project developed during the Art & Design residency ‘Radical Waters – Concrete Matters’ that embraces the Tagus River and its ecosystem to create a mobile kitchen covered with tiles made from oysters and seaweed.
