Bauhaus of the Seas Sails at the NEB Festival 2024

From 9 to 13 April 2024, Bauhaus of the Seas Sails took part of the New European Bauhaus Festival held at the Art and History Museum in Brussels, Belgium.

The 2024 edition was officially inaugurated on Tuesday, 9 April 2024 in the presence and with speeches by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen and Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo.

Bauhaus of the Seas Sails kicked-off the week’s activities also on Tuesday afternoon by participating in a panel discussion with NEB-Star and Desire as part of the Northern NEB Lights satellite event at NTNU Brussels. During the session Frederico Duarte (ITI/FBAUL) joined the debate about the power and challenges of working with common narratives in these large scale projects. The event was moderated by Design and Architecture Norway (DOGA).

The Malmö pilot held a successful online workshop titled The Ocean starts here: more-than-human co-design for living with the sea on Wednesday, 10 April which was also part of the official New European Bauhaus programme as a satellite event. The Ocean Ambassadors Compass was officially launched during this workshop hosted by  Malmö University and Marint Kunskapscenter i Malmö, and Forum for Social Innovation Sweden.

The New European Bauhaus FAIR

Bauhaus of the Seas Sails was part of the Festival’s FAIR with a dedicated booth during the whole week. In the vicinity of the other New European Bauhaus lighthouse projects including  CrAFtDesireNEBourhoods, Eyes Hearts HandsCultuurcampus and NEB-Star, we had the opportunity to present our work to the curious participants and discuss the sustainable transition with like-minded initiatives.

On Friday, 12 April, a joint workshop of the NEB demonstrators was held with the lighthouse projects in the FAIR area where we had a good attendance of 30 participants interested in the NEB processes. We discussed the role of the artists and creatives in our projects as well topics like gentrification in cases of intervening in different neighborhoods.

Besides the many discussions and collaboration opportunities, the Festival was also the perfect moment to launch our the first episode of our video series with Canal 180 Drop, Ripple, Wave.
